Does the science behind oral probiotics make sense?
At a category level, yes—there is enough published research to take the idea seriously. Randomized trials have reported benefits from particular oral-probiotic strains in specific settings. For example, one controlled trial found improved periodontal measures with lozenges containing two defined L. reuteri strains during a 42-day naval deployment.
But probiotic evidence is unusually easy to overstate. Results can depend on the exact strain, dose, population, duration, and outcome being measured. Another randomized study in people with periodontitis and type 2 diabetes found no additional clinical periodontal benefit from L. reuteri over placebo when both groups received professional treatment.

We checked the Trustpilot profile that links to prodentim.com. When fact-checked on August 15, 2026, it showed 101 reviews, a 1.9/5 TrustScore, and 81% one-star reviews. Trustpilot also states that the company has no history of asking customers for reviews there, so the sample may not represent all ProDentim buyers.
We therefore use the profile as a reputation signal, not as a clinical study or a precise failure rate.
Some reviewers say they used the product consistently without noticing the oral-health changes they expected.
